Iron Maiden

At the same time that I began work on Bruce Dickinson’s ‘The Chemical Wedding’, I started working for Iron Maiden too. As well as designing the series of reissues that began with 1986′s ‘Somewhere In Time’, I was also involved with the creation of singles, posters, passes, invites, advertising and promotional material for Maiden’s ‘Virtual XI’ (1998) album, their second and last to feature singer Blaze Bayley. I also designed the programme for this tour as well as the ‘Dance Of Death’ (2003), ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’ (2006) and most recently the ‘Somewhere Back In Time’ (2008) tours.

When Iron Maiden reissued their back catalogue in the States, they needed a promotional only CD that featured a track apiece across the whole of their repertoire. The brief was to come up with something akin to the ‘Best Of The Beast’ set. The one thing Maiden albums have in common is of course Eddie, so I came up with the idea of an illustration that depicted rows upon rows of decapitated Eddie heads, one each from every album, pickled in formaldehyde jars (or in this case, some wine making demijons). The artwork was also used on the back of t-shirts for the 2003 live trek.

Over the years, I have designed a number of t-shirts, tour brochures, adverts and picture discs for Iron Maiden. I’ve also designed albums for Adrian Smith’s band Psycho Motel and Janick Gers’ pre-Maiden combo, White Spirit.
